Trapped

This is a picture of my friend, Sam. The way I usually get pictures like this is by asking people if they would like to be in a “make shift photo shoot.” This entails going to parks or venturing in back yards and posing in interesting and weird way.

This photograph was taken at Akron Falls Park. It is really pretty there, especially in the autumn when all the leaves are changing colors and the water level isn’t too high so you can go romping around in the river bed. There is also a really cool rock garden there which is exactly what it sounds like it: a garden of rocks. The entire thing is made out of stones and there is a small fountain that spews water. One day I got really bored so I asked my friends Liz and Sam to be my models! They packed up bunch different outfits and we headed off. I guess I’m not as artsy or deep and philosophical in my photography when I am taking them as I would like to be, but I always keep themes and messages tucked in the back of my head.

This photo is for all girls who have felt trapped by the pressures of society. Very predictable, I know. This photograph shows the unseen side of every girl (or even guy) that has been put down or forced to succumb to what is expected. When girls put on the fanciest clothes in the morning and pile the synthetic goo onto their faces, there may be a part of them screaming at them to knock it off. Sometimes we get into such a habit that we can’t even stop ourselves from doing the simplest of things. I guess the message of this photograph that I really want to get out is this: that little voice inside your head that yells at you every time you wear pinchy shoes, or pluck your eyebrows, or wax your legs, you should listen to her. You have put her through a lot and she deserves to be heard.
